A few weeks ago, it was 70 degrees here, and Ella was riding her bike with shorts on.
And then this past Thursday, it started snowing....and didn't stop. We're currently sitting pretty at nearly 2 feet of snow, and 45 mph wind gusts.
Of course, when you have a 9 year old who has been waiting, and praying, and waiting and praying for Winter since the end of October, you brave the cold.
It's a ghost town out there!
She's certainly dressed for the weather. The hat came from Gabe. It's ridiculous, but she loves it!
The happiest kid in a blizzard that you ever will see.
Snow angel!
That snow is soooo deep!
See that red sliver? That's Ella's sled....
She had to dig it out of the snow.
Woo-hoo!
Unfortunately, the high winds and way cold weather didn't allow for much sledding. We're trying again tomorrow.
If you're wondering how our cats are faring in this insanity, well, they've both opted to stay inside. Dave has been laying out in Ella's tub, which I've discovered is pretty warm. Sphinx has decided to snuggle up under some blankets, but they both came out while I cooked dinner.
I'm going to attempt to enjoy the snow while we have it (Monday is supposed to bring 45 degree temps and Tuesday, it's going to rain, so it will all melt!), but I am definitely ready for some snowless days!!!!
If you're in the path of this storm, please stay warm and safe!

Merry, Merry Christmas!
It's Christmas Day, It's Christmas Day!!!!
We are rejoicing over Christ's birth and enjoying a rare day together.
I'm taking a break from the lull in the action to post this little update.
Our tree is little right now, but it will be majestic when we plant it near our house. Expect a fake tree next year, ya'll!
We had a TON of Amazon boxes pour in at the last minute that I didn't have time to wrap...whoops. (and there are more coming, one of Ella's gifts from me and Gabe...a Kindle Fire...shhhhhh!!!!....is coming sometime next week as well as some books from her grandparents!) Oh, and there's a Sphinx in there and Magpie's tail (Magpie, we believe, is on the upswing, yay!)
Christmas selfie! My hair is doing some crazy curly thing (I cut it this week) and the thing I love about this picture is how much I resemble my Mom. She's a lovely lady!
My very own Joe Cool ;) His big gift from me won't be here for a little while yet, but hey, chocolate and money is always good ;)
Ella and a pile of presents.
If you heard an excited scream, it was my kid because she got a TELESCOPE!!!! (from our landlord, Tony) It's been cloudy here the last few days, but she is (im) patiently waiting for a clear night so she can stargaze.
The only 50 Shades book I want to read ;)
Ahhh, I look ridiculous, but I love us. Nearly 11 years!!!! I asked Gabe earlier if this Christmas was better than last Christmas (cough stoveless house, insane neighbors, cough). He said that it was because, "I got to watch my family have a wonderful Christmas."
*swoon* Love this guy. We've been through some rough stuff these past 11 years, most of it my fault, but we've managed to come out better for it!
....oh!
Today is Christmas Day...and it's also the 5 month anniversary of bringing home Dave and The Sphinx!
Happy Adopt-A-Versary to my two turkeys!
Merry Christmas, dear friends!!!! May you feel God's love this season, and always!

On Family
I was blessed enough to spend time with Grandpa Bruce this morning, and I am so very thankful to have him in my life. And then I started thinking about my actual grandparents (because ya'll know that Grandpa Bruce isn't a blood relative) and how much I miss them, and how I didn't ever get to meet my Daddy's parents (they both died before I was born)...which got me thinking about other members of my family, blood and not-blood, and how I learn so much from them, even when they really hurt me.
Dad: He taught me that I have worth, and that I have value and that I should never settle for less. Despite me being a horrible, stupid bratty kid (my words, not his), he always loved me, even when he had to be tough. Dad taught me about tact, and keeping relationships together, even when there may not be a strong foundation.
Mom: I'm learning from her the value of forgiveness, both giving and getting. We've misunderstood each other so much in the past, and we're working on it now. I love talking to her and I love working on our relationship. I'm learning more about cooking in my culture, and the tips and tricks to Polish recipes.
Grandma Aniela: (Mom's Mom) She taught me to take no crap from anyone, ever. She taught me the value of church, the value of prayer. She taught me that it's okay to climb a tree in a dress every once in a while.
Grandpa Wladyslaw: (Mom's Dad) He taught me that everyone is human, and that there is an incredible bravery in everyone. He taught me not to be afraid of airplanes and he taught me that people can surprise you if you let them.
Grandma Marianna: (Dad's Mom) I never got to meet her, but I know she was a sweet, gentle woman, who gave birth to my aunt Josie in a concentration camp. She taught me about bravery and how fierce a mother's love for her kids can be.
Grandpa Franciszek: (Dad's Dad) I never met him either, but I know he was a quiet man who worked hard. On my hard days, I think about him, supporting 4 kids who all turned out to be amazing people. I think about him, in a concentration camp, and how brave he must have been, and I remember that whatever I am facing, I can get through it.
Great Aunt Bernice: She taught me that not every example is a good one. That not everything that sparkles is worth it. She taught me what I don't want from a marriage, and motherhood.
Great Uncle Karol: (Aunt Bernice's husband) He taught me to dance the waltz. He taught me to look for the magic in the little stuff, to skip down the park paths, and to be cheerful in my work, whatever that is.
Aunt Stacy: She taught me that forgiveness isn't for the other person, it's for me. She also taught me to be careful with my words, because other people may not always be.
Gosia: (the oldest blood sister) She taught me that sometimes things aren't worth trying to save. That sometimes, you can love from far away, without getting involved in hurtful things. She taught me what I don't want to be like, and that despite what other people may say, I am enough.
Gabe: (my husband) He taught me that I can come back from being completely broken, that I can pull myself up and that I can go on, no matter how hard it is. He taught me that the Bible is SO INCREDIBLY important and he showed me why I need a relationship with Christ. He taught me that if I want something, I have to fight for it.
Riley Grace: (my firstborn, in heaven) She taught me that I am so much tougher than I look. She taught me love and compassion, and that I am worth something. That I love motherhood.
Ella: (my first living child) She's taught me a world of things. She showed me that even after something so horrific as the loss of a baby during pregnancy, there is hope. She teaches me every day to be a better person.
Bill: (Gabe's Dad) He taught me a big lesson in forgiveness. He taught me that I cannot judge people without speaking to them. He showed me that I'm not alone, even though I may think I am sometimes. He showed me that forgiveness can turn an ugly situation into something beautiful.
North Carolina Mom: She taught me that sometimes, it's just nice to do something good for someone, just because you can. She taught me how to make creampuffs. She taught me that a movie and popsicles are sometimes the best medicine. She taught me how to cook Spam Casserole...I learned on my own that it was a terrible idea ;)
Ms. Lora (fake grandma): She taught me how to sit still and listen. She taught me how to really, really love others. She taught me what a real Christian lady was like. She taught me even more to love motherhood, and cherish every single second.
Grandpa Bruce: He taught me how to care for tomatoes, and that sometimes, family isn't blood. He taught me to make chicken and dumplings, and pepper steak. He taught me the value of sitting on a porch with a green popsicle and watching a kid on a swing.
Grandma Jean: She taught me that marriage is important. She taught me that you can go through a terrible loss and still emerge a lady of grace. She taught me about loving my child, and that avocado goes with absolutely everything. She also taught me that sometimes, a rose has more value when you give it to someone else.
I'm still learning, every day. Even if it's a lesson that hurts, I'm grateful.

Introducing...
TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's the newest member of our little family.
After Sparrow's disappearance, I wasn't sure I'd have room in my heart for another cat. Butterscotch and Star were adopted by a lady in my old neighborhood after the death of her beloved cat. Ella and I are big fans of going to the Humane Society in town and one day Gabe said, "Why don't you get a cat? Another tuxedo. That may do you good."
I ran into a Humane Society staff member in town and asked if they had any tuxedo cat and he said "Well, there's Tom." The next day, Ella and I went to see Tom and we fell in love!
Tom came home today, and we've all adjusted pretty well. Except for me having to move Hawkeye (our fish) so he's out of Tom's reach.
We're still unpacking stuff, but it's much more cheerful with Tommy Cat around :)

We're Here! Also: Superman and a Sprained Wrist (and a Lilla Rose sale)
We're here! We're here! I am typing up this post from the master bedroom in the new house. It's 11:34 (eastern time) and it's so quiet I can actually hear the frogs from across the street. It's been an exhausting day, but we're finally here and we're here to stay!
My husband is Superman. Seriously. he had a mouth/earache last night and it gave him so much trouble, but he came home and packed the rest of the house up like a champ. I did what I could, but with a sprained wrist it wasn't easy.
Yes, that's my massive collection of Lilla Rose products in the background. That reminds me!!!!
Lilla Rose is having a sale! 10% off their new gorgeous Color Basics line and free shipping on orders over $40. It ends at Midnight Pacific time May 15th (that's tomorrow!) So go here and buy something lovely! Also, if you've ever thought of selling Lilla Rose products, now is totally the time!
If I've never told ya'll before, I love this company. I borrowed the $50 to buy the startup kit from Gabe and it's paid itself back over and over. I even called the home office with a question once and John Dorsey, the CEO answered the phone! He was super sweet and it totally made my day. Not to mention, I love and believe in the product I'm selling!
Enough gushing for now...
Just a few pictures to show you....
The house looks like this....but that's ok. Tomorrow, I shall unpack.
That little swatch of hair is my daughter, wrapped up like a burrito.
...and Superman has finally called it a day :)
I'm exhausted but ridiculously happy to be here! Night all!!!

A Typical Saturday Night....
...involves 10 pounds of bell peppers bought on clearance....
...a kid willing to help....
...using the Grandpa Bruce food preservation method (sucking the air out of the freezer bag with a straw)
...and having dinner prep made infinitely easier!
I'm grateful for a daughter who loves to help!

Small Life Update
...because small is all I have time for right now.
We are moving. So....most of my house looks like THIS.
I hate moving. Seriously. Beyond hate it. But, despite the stress of the last few weeks, this is probably the least stressful move I have ever had. Mainly, because of THIS guy.
He is the master of packing. I would be lost without him. (because, say it with me , ya'll I HATE MOVING) He has been busy packing up our little house, and I have been helping here and there (mainly packing up my kitchen without packing up every.single.little.thing I use, lest I not have it when necessary)
We are definitely not the most attractive couple....but we do have very cute children....

My house is in upheaval right now. Boxes are everywhere! STUFF is everywhere! But, we keep things in perspective and thank God in all things. Tonight was our Thanksgiving, seeing as by the real Thanksgiving, 99% of my house will be in boxes, and we may actually be moving that day, sooooooooooooooo....we sat down to a family dinner today, and it was lovely. My husband worded a beautiful prayer and we counted our blessings.
This next week is going to be more packing, more moving, more insanity. I promised Ella I would spend the better part of the day with her tomorrow, including a trip to see the new house and fried chicken for lunch.
Gabe is totally my hero throughout all of this. He got so much done before he went to work yesterday it was amazing. I came in from work yesterday afternoon to find a ton of clothes already boxed up and ready to go.
We have an amazing church family helping us through this move. We've only been attending church there for a few months, but the people there have stepped in and helped us a ton. Pastor even stopped by today with boxes and packing materials. We are blessed! We are blessed! We are blessed!

Girls and Pearls, October 2014 Edition
Ella has been asking "When are we going to do Girls and Pearls, Mom? When?" And since it is INDIAN SUMMER (in all caps, that's how excited I am about it) today was totally an awesome day for it.
Even Gabe, who normally stays behind the camera, posed for pictures today :)
We got ice cream, and hit the park.
It's awesome how our conversation can range from "Mom, I hope my friend gets saved. I'm going to talk to her about Jesus" to "How do you think they got that chocolate all perfect inside the drumstick cone?"
Motherhood is so very, very humbling and amazing.

Girls and Pearls: September 2014 Edition.
This was a little bit different, because Ella wanted a pajama party type thing. Who wears pearls with their pajamas? We do.
We went outside and played with sparklers and then came inside and had hot chocolate. Nothing fancy but hey, it was great fun :)
